Your wedding day is the one day you want to look and feel absolutely perfect. As a bridal makeup artist based in Delhi and NCR, I have seen what works — and what doesn't — across hundreds of weddings. Here are my top tips to help every Delhi bride feel camera-ready from the mandap to the dance floor.
1. Start with a skincare routine at least 3 months before
Great makeup begins with great skin. Start a consistent routine of cleansing, moisturising, and using SPF daily at least 12 weeks before your wedding. Avoid introducing new products too close to the date — your skin needs time to adjust.
2. Book a trial session
A makeup trial is not optional — it is essential. It allows you to test how your skin reacts to products, see your look in photographs, and make adjustments before the actual day. I offer trials at my studio in Delhi so you can arrive on your wedding day with complete confidence.
3. Choose the right base for Delhi's climate
Delhi's summers are notoriously hot and humid. Opt for a long-wear, sweat-proof foundation with a setting spray to lock everything in place. In winter, switch to something with a dewy finish to avoid that dry, powdery look in photographs.
4. Match your makeup to your outfit — not just your skin tone
A red lehenga calls for a different eye and lip balance than a pastel one. Heavy embroidery and jewellery often pair better with a softer, more natural face. Let your outfit guide the drama level of your makeup.
5. Prioritise your eyes for photographs
Professional cameras often flatten features. Well-defined eyes — through kajal, eyeliner, and mascara — ensure your gaze stands out in every shot. Consider false lashes for a night ceremony, and always use waterproof products.
6. Do not skip your neck and hands
One of the most common mistakes I see is a perfect face that doesn't match the neck and décolletage. I always blend foundation and a light bronzer down to ensure a seamless finish in wide-angle photographs.
7. Prep your lips the night before
Exfoliate your lips gently the evening before your wedding and apply a nourishing lip balm overnight. Smooth, hydrated lips hold colour far better and prevent feathering — especially important if you are wearing a deep red or berry shade.
8. Discuss your preferences clearly with your artist
Save reference images from Pinterest or Instagram but be realistic — great makeup is personalised to your features, not copied from someone else's face. Bring inspiration, but trust your artist's expertise in adapting it to suit you.
9. Have a touch-up kit handy
Pack blotting papers, your lipstick, a small pressed powder, and a mini setting spray. These four items will keep you looking fresh from the morning ceremonies all the way to the reception.
10. Sleep well and stay hydrated
No amount of makeup can replace the natural glow of a well-rested, well-hydrated bride. Drink plenty of water in the week leading up to your wedding and try to get at least seven to eight hours of sleep the night before.
